Hhhmm true and very encouraging, this living of a lifestyle continually on the edge also leads to passionate declarations for restoration 'cos the bruising can be constant...................worth it, but sore.

Hi Lloyd, Interesting I should read this as a few weeks ago I had these thoughts about life and death existing in the one wedding band.
A great marriage is certainly made up of both some degree of death (to self) and ecstatic new life and discovery - this state of being is true throughout marriage with the two aspects being held in tension most of the time (as you speak of). And I guess the more balance there is in that tension state(or the more room and invitation for His Prescence) the more positive the experience at the time. Pretty cool stuff.

On p 32 "At home, we try to teach our people to pray first and preach later. We've found that almost anyone is open to prayer. Even fairly anti-Christian people respond positively to prayer... Our experience is that evangelism isn't so hard if someone has experienced God's love in the shape of an answered prayer."
I am really challenged to pray- pray for growth, do the preparation prayer and then ask to pray with people/ for people when they are having a rough time. I can do that- it seems a whole lot less intimidating....

Also, reading about the whole supported church plant thing.... this is new for Aotearoa Vineyard- so far most churches have been founded in isolation and with a faithful few. We need to learn and do the whole supported church plant thing- that's new for us. Much of our leadership has been releasing, "That's a great idea! Go and do it!" but not so much of the, "Let's mentor you through this. What do you need to get this done and how can you get these things/ resources/ people?" I am aware things are changing, but maybe we can make it more conscious.

Wow - how great to hear that miraculous things still happen in our time! Also love the fact that we are in a wonderful family to do life with. Am reminded in reading this, the encouragement in the bible that people will come to know Jesus by the love we have for one another. May we (God help me with my bit) in our part of the world and the wider church family be known for that. Thanks for the input Lloyd.

Power evangelism is little bit hard to read, it was written in 1980's and shows values of those times. Wimber talks about modern day miracles, power of the prayer and many other things like church revival movement of 1960's.
It has touch of controversal issues such as guided programme to de-gay or de-homosexsualise men which sort of reminded me of Brian Tamaki and Destiny movement. But Wimber is gifted writer and I really had no major objections about most issues he raised on this book. Part autobiographical essays on himself and commentary of 1960- mid 1980's growth of the Vineyard movement.
